tl;dr See the Press Release and AdRoll’s blog post.
For the past two years, we have been working to democratize data analytics with Bitdeli. Our first release in March 2012 introduced the live editor that allowed anyone with basic knowledge of Python to analyze real-time streams of data. Last November, we released a major upgrade that introduced user-centric analytics and visualizations to Bitdeli.
Based on the feedback we had collected, our next focus was to easily recognize and re-engage inactive users, among other interesting user segments. You can see a live demonstration of these features in Ville’s PyData talk.
Last March, we hosted a booth at the PyCon conference. One of the people we met was Valentino Volonghi, the Chief Architect of AdRoll. By amazing coincidence, Valentino was one of the first contributors to open-source Disco MapReduce that Ville had started in 2008.
Over the next few months, we learned about AdRoll’s elegant and efficient solution for re-engaging customers with targeted advertising. We were excited to learn that AdRoll’s mission, to deliver advanced data-driven features via easy-to-use and intuitive interfaces, was very much aligned with our own and that they were actively working to add deep segmentation and other analytics-driven features to their platform.
Today, we are happy to announce that AdRoll has acquired Bitdeli. This is a great opportunity for us to help build a market-leading product that closes the loop from raw data to satisfied customers. Most importantly, we can continue democratizing the world of data that used to be available only for the largest enterprises.
Our core Bitdeli service will be folded into AdRoll’s product offering and will not be accessible in its current form after July 31st, 2013. We will, however, continue to provide the Bitdeli badge for GitHub—a service which has been rapidly growing over the past few months.
If you are an existing user of Bitdeli, you can find a summary of the changes and a welcome gift from AdRoll in your inbox. We are happy to assist you in migrating your data and code from Bitdeli. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
